Born and raised here in Columbus, I attended Brookstone School and went on to Auburn University, earning my BA in International Trade. For the past 24 years, I have taught middle school Spanish, and now, geography at Brookstone. Throughout my career at Brookstone, I have worked in the development office as alumni coordinator, was the yearbook adviser for fifteen years, and have coached volleyball. Currently, I am one of the girls’ basketball coaches. A member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, I sing in the praise band and chancel choir. Most importantly, I am the proud mother of Shannon, 19 and Benjamin, 16.
Growing up, I spent many years dancing at Patty Taylor’s Academy of Fine Arts. High school is when I got the performing bug, with leads in The Pajama Game and Barnum. During college, I got the chance to travel with the international group Up With People, dancing and singing in venues all over the US and Europe. Back home, I have danced on the Springer stage in Will Rogers Follies, Jesus Christ Superstar, Oklahoma, and Guys and Dolls.
Ever since the first Dancing Stars of Columbus event, I have wanted to participate! There are so many people that are affected by Alzheimer’s, and my family is no exception. Both my great-aunt, “Little Aunt Margaret,” and my aunt, “Big Aunt Margaret” suffered and died from Alzheimer’s Disease. I am blessed with a huge family, and chances are high that another loved one will be diagnosed. So far, God has blessed me with good health and a love for music and dance. I believe that this event is a wonderful way for me to use those gifts to help others. I would like to thank the people that have taught and supported me, and I would be honored if you would help me in this awesome endeavor. Vote for me, vote for everybody! Let’s help find a cure for this disease!
