Teri Schneider was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio.  Teri began tap dancing at the age of 3 and went on to cheer in college and dance in both the Miss Indiana 1979 and Miss Ohio 1980 Pageants (Miss America Pageant System) where she was named a finalist and swimsuit winner.  As the first college graduate in her family, Anderson University in Indiana, with a BA in Secondary Science Education cum laude, Teri went on to become a science teacher.  Teri’s experience in education includes 22 years of classroom instruction (Ohio, Georgia, Washington State, and Germany) in both the public and private sector. She has been teaching AP Environmental Science and PreAP Biology since 2005 at Peachtree Ridge HS in Suwanee, GA where she has been a finalist for Teacher-of-the-Year for the past 2 years consecutively.  Teri also serves as the Gifted Coordinator, and is the assistant coach for the seven time state-champion competition cheer team. Teri is an AP Environmental Science Exam grader for College Board/ETS and has presented at the AP (Advanced Placement) National Conference.  In July of 2015 Teri was appointed to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission by Governor Nathan Deal where she also serves on the Ethics Subcommittee. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Administration and Policy through UGA.  Teri is the mother of two adult sons, a 2009 GA TECH highest honors graduate, and a 2013 Berry College cum laude graduate.  Teri was promoted to the status of Grandmother in September of 2013 and loves spending time with her grandsons Landon (3) and Liam (1)! Teri credits her mother with creating a passion for dance in her life.  Her mom and dad never missed a cheer or dance performance for her in the 18 years she competed and performed.  In October of 2015 Teri’s mother, Pauline Thomas passed away from the effects of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).  LBD is a type of dementia, related to Alzheimer's disease that leads to a decline in thinking, reasoning and independent function because of abnormal microscopic deposits that damage brain cells over time.  Teri experienced the devastation that Alzheimer’s and its related diseases had on her mother who was a vibrant and active mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Tonight Teri dances one more time especially for her precious mother, who is dancing with her father in heaven, and to combat the devastation of Alzheimer’s on patients and their families!

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.

I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's.
