Harold Albert Lokovsek, 86, was born in Enumclaw, Washington, April 1931 and passed away in Upland, California on August 8, 2017.
Harold (Hal) was the son of Martin and Ana (Sevsek) Lokovsek and was one of 10 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1949 and entered college at Washington State in Pullman, Washington on a football scholarship. While at Washington State University, Hal lettered in football from 1950-1952 as a tackle and was drafted by the NFL Chicago Cardinals in 1953. He did not sign with the Cardinals, but returned to WSU to complete his bachelor's degree in civil engineering, while working as an assistant football coach and ROTC member. While at WSU, Hal met Barbara Jill Peck from Spokane, Washington and they were married in 1954 in Pullman.
Harold completed service to his country with the US Army Engineering Corp in 1957 and joined Guy F. Atkinson Construction Company, based in California, as a civil engineer. Hal and Jill lived in many communities up and down the West Coast of the U.S. during his 30+ year career in construction. In 1961, they welcomed their only daughter, Molla Lokovsek (Knudson). Hal was an avid sports fan and gardener throughout his life. He was inducted into the Enumclaw High School Hall of Fame in 2004.
Harold and Jill settled in Upland, California in 1988 and Hal retired from Zurn Industries in 2000. Through the last 15 years or so of his life, Harold experienced the memory and functional declines brought on by Alzheimer's disease. He was able to live at home for almost all of this period through the focused daily care of his wife, Jill.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ana, his brothers Charlie, Billy and Leo and his sisters, Elsie and Anna Mae (Lokovsek) Anderson. Hal is survived by two brothers and 2 sisters, Martin, Warren, Mary (Lokovsek) Kell and Dorothy (Lokovsek) Sleigh. He is also survived by his wife, Barbara Jill (Peck) Lokovsek, daughter, Molla (Lokovsek) Knudson, son-in-law, Craig Knudson and two grandchildren, Lauren and Sean Knudson.
A funeral service will be held August 17 in Upland, California with burial in Spokane, Washington on August 25. The family respectfully requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (http://alz.org).
