My nanny, Glenda, is such an inspiration to me. She has really shown me how strong she is since she was diagnosed with this disease, in October 2006. When my mom told me that my nanny had AD, I honestly didn't want to believe it. Although I knew my nanny was acting different I didn't really think anything of it because I had never really heard of AD. I visit my nanny every weekend and it really bothers me to see that she is not the same person she was three years ago. I am lighting this candle to honor my nanny and poppa. My poppa is the greatest poppa out there and he does the best job when it comes to taking care of my nanny. I see how difficult it is for him to see my nanny go through this, because he has had to take on a lot of responsibilities that my nanny used to do. I love my nanny and poppa a lot and I want to thank them for being great grandparents.
Raising awareness for AD is extremely important to me for one I am seeing my nanny suffer from the disease and there just isn't enough technology to help her and second there are over 5 million people in this world suffering from the same disease. It is the sixth leading cause of death for people in the U.S. so we have to get some more researh and technology to help out with this disease.
