Please help and donate to my team: TEAM BRUNETTE for the annual and nationally known BLONDESvs BRUNETTES Flag Football game.
I'm raising money for Alzheimer's on behalf of my mother Helen. A year ago she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, though we saw signs long before that. Words slipping from her mind became a daily issue, social situations confused her, she had to give up driving because she was lost going any place, and she frequently lost personal items. She cannot recount a story she was told. Last January, independent living become too difficult for her to bear alone and I become her primary care-taker, moving her to Texas and into my home. Though she remembers me at this point and knows how to dress herself, she really struggles with her new found disability. My mother is smart, she was articulate, she had a silver tongue. Aware that she is barely able to order a meal, it is hard for her to adjust to her new self, to her new limitations. The first assault of Alzheimer's is dignity, self-worth. Coming soon maybe be far worse symptoms, like forgetting to shower or eat, escaping from the house. It is very scary but I try to focus on the day to day and the joy that she brings to my life. My best hope is that my mom's generation is the last generation to face this disease. Researchers say they are close to finding a cure, please help me support the cause so none of your parents, or you have to go through this.
Please support my participation in RVAlz, a flag football game and fundraising competition to help end Alzheimer’s. We may be opponents on the field, but when it comes to Alzheimer’s, we’re all on the same side. This is a disease that must be defeated and we need your help to do it. Your donation will advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Unfortunately due to my military obligations, I will be unable to play in the game, MAY 5th, but will be there in spirit and for the practices leading up!
Thank you for helping us tackle this disease – win or lose, our true goal is a world without Alzheimer’s!
To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
