I'm doing this in honor of two great men from my community: Rube Abbot and Thomas Molter.
Rube is always quick with a smile and huge laugh. I love him and I wish so much that I could do more than this for him. Rube has been one of my mom's best friends ever since their days working at the post office together. I can't remember a time in my life without Rube. I remember him driving around town in a colorful Tracker that I really wanted to drive when I grew up. As a kid, and as an adult, Rube made me feel like I was smart, brave, beautiful, funny, and kind. That message helped give me the strength to face up to my challenges and helped me grow up to be who I am today. Every kid needs a voice like that in their life.
Tom passed away in November 2017. He is the father of one of my very favorite uncles and he is the grandfather of two of my wonderful cousins. He was married for 66 years and raised 7 kids. He was a good man. A family man with a heart of gold and always with a smile. Being a kid, running around at joint family events and never paying much attention to the adults, the main thing I think of when I think of Tom is his smile. He was kind and happy and has left behind an amazing legacy in his family.
