Alzheimer’s disease is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death, and women are at the epicenter of the epidemic. It’s time to change the course of this disease – together! I could not be more excited to take the field for the 5th year of RivALZ!
Four years ago I wanted to get involved and make a difference by volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association. I lost 3 grandparents to dementia, including Alzheimer’s, so this disease has personally impacted me. I had no idea that getting involved in RivALZ would have such a big impact on my life. My first year I joined Team Bru which was a huge learning year because I had no idea how to catch a football, let alone play a game of football. My second year and third year I took on a leadership role by joining the executive committee planning our season events. My 4th and 5th year I have moved into the Brunette co-chair role.
In these four years I heard so many personal stories showing why we need to #TackleALZ, visited Washington D.C. twice to advocate to our nation’s leaders urging support to End Alzheimer’s, gained a lot of football knowledge, and met an incredible group of young professionals that I have celebrated, laughed, and cried with.
Why do I RivALZ?
• I play for over 5 million Americans currently living with the disease and their 15 million caregivers. After working in memory care as a CNA for 5 years, I know exactly how much credit each of those caregivers should receive - it is not an easy task!
• I play for a future without Alzheimer’s. I would love to show you even one survivor of the disease, but I cannot. If you have Alzheimer's disease, you either die from it or die with it.
• Most important to my heart, I play in honor of three of my grandparents who lost their own battles to dementia and my fiance's grandfather who is currently fighting his battle against Alzheimer's Disease.
• This is a disease that must be defeated and we need your help to do it. Please consider making a donation to help support a future without Alzheimer’s - any amount helps!
Thank you in advance for your generosity – together, we can tackle Alzheimer’s disease!
