I am tackling Alzheimer's by taking it to the (flag) football field with Blondes vs. Brunettes, a nationwide women's flag-football league created to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. My brunette teammates and I are training and preparing for game day on June 2nd, but win or lose, our true goal is a world without Alzheimer's.
I'm tackling this disease in honor of the Streck family, a group who showed me at a very young age the definition of what "family" really means. And, I'm tackling Alzheimer's for my grandmother - one of the strongest women out there.
Some facts and figures: Alzheimer's disease is the nation's sixth-leading cause of death. An estimated 5.4 million Americans are living with the disease and nearly 15 million are acting as caregivers. And, if those facts don't motivate you enough, here's one: Alzheimer's is the only cause of death among the top 10 in the US that can not be prevented, cured or even slowed.
I need your support to do my part! Please sponsor my participation in the Blondes vs. Brunettes game by making a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research to discover methods of prevention, treatment and ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's.
Thank you!
