When I was young, I saw my uncle deteriorate with Altzheimer's. He was an auto mechanic who owned a small garage. He had a quick wit and a creative mind. He would create songs with his best friend Ray, and then sing these jazzy numbers to us when we came to visit. Altzheimer's reduced his ability to be independent, his happiness, and eventually his understanding of what was going on around him. In my twenties, I volunteered for a home for Altzheimer's patients. It was a humbling experience, spending time with many women and men who slowly lost their memory, and eventually their ability to function without 24 hour care.
By challenging myself to this ski, I am committing myself to train for this event and to raise awareness and money for this cause. Please consider making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
Thanks for considering :)
