Let's End Alzheimer's Together
Please support my ride in any amount you can - $9, $18, $93, $424 - round numbers are fine too!
This is my seventh year doing the ride and once again I'll be riding the 100 miles route. Join me!
My mom is doing okay, living reasonably happily on the memory unit at Tockwotton in Providence RI. She is in fact, extremely healthy except her mind just refuses to work and as such it's hard to do most anything for herself. Even remember who she is. Still, on her best days she clearly can place all of us -- if not by name. It is such a nasty disease.
Your donation is important not just because of my mom however. One in every ten people over 65 have Alzheimer’s and approximately 480,000 people will develop it THIS YEAR alone. And the cost of that? The cost of care for those with Alzheimer’s will exceed a quarter TRILLION dollars this year. Worse, that is projected to quadruple by 2050.
But on the good side, your donation WILL make a difference. When I started doing this ride six years ago the big breakthrough had been a way to diagnosis the plaque buildup while the patient was still alive. Then it was genetic markers, and today it is a series of drug trials that scientist hope will slow the disease or perhaps even stop it. There is more I've missed I'm sure. Your dollars will go to research to help find a cure.
Thank you for donation (and hey, did I mention - why not come out and ride?)
