Let's End Alzheimer's Together
I'm riding 100 miles in the Ride To End Alzheimer's this June 9th because it's a horrible disease that I know personally and I would be grateful if you would make a donation in whatever amount will work for you - $3, $19, $99 or even $199. Round numbers will work too.
The effort and your giving couldn’t be more important.
Your donation is important because one in every ten people over 65 have Alzheimer’s and approximately 480,000 people will develop it THIS YEAR alone. And the cost of that? The cost of care for those with Alzheimer’s will exceed a quarter TRILLION dollars this year.
That is a lot of money, but an amount set to grow - projected to quadruple by 2050. As they say, it’s not a sustainable trend.
And beyond the money, it’s an ugly disease. It robs you of all their mental facilities. Simple things become impossible. My mother is an otherwise healthy 84 year old who ate well and exercised regularly. No high blood pressure, no heart issues, none of the more traditional diseases of aging. But while she’s doing the very best she can, she can no longer cook, dress without assistance, or even dial or answer a phone. You wouldn't wish it on anyone and it's not just a normal outcome of aging.
But on the good side, your donation WILL make a difference. When I started doing this ride six years ago the big breakthrough had been a way to diagnosis the plaque buildup while the patient was still alive. Then it was genetic markers, and today it is a series of drug trials that scientist hope will slow the disease or perhaps even stop it. Research and the our dollars that are funding it are making a difference.
Your money will go to the the Alzheimer’s Association and in turn the research they fund. It is the largest nonprofit voluntary health organization that is dedicated to accelerating the progress in prevention, cure and living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for donation (and hey, why not come out and ride?)
