My Personal Fundraising Page
Thanks for visiting my page! Having never been an outdoor bike rider (spin class is my thing), I am jumping out of my comfort zone and participating in a 33 mile bike ride in memory of my Grandpa Jim.
Gramp died from Alzheimer's Disease 25 years ago. I watched him transform from a kind, generous family man and brilliant businessman into a helpless individual who couldn't take care of his most basic needs. During college I spent two summers living with my grandparents while working a summer job. The first summer, Gramp was a little forgetful, would have trouble finding some words and could no longer sign his name. I remember his frustrated tone when he told me that getting old is no fun! The following summer, the disease had noticeably progressed. Gramp's walking had turned into shuffling, he could no longer speak in sentences and his blank stare left me wondering if he had any recollection of his life so well-lived. Gramp soon moved into a nursing home when Gram could no longer feed him, bathe him or dress him at home. As hard as it was for me watching Gramp decline, it was likely even harder on my mom and gram. It is still very painful reliving these memories, even 25 years after Gramp's passing. Alzheimer's Disease is torturous on the victim as well as family members and loved ones. We must find a cure for this horrible disease, and hopefully soon reach our goal of the first Alzheimer's survivor!!! Thank you for considering a donation, no matter the size, to help support me in this ride.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research- only dollars. By participating in the 2019 Ride to End Alzheimer's, I've committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
And you can help me. These dollars are desperately needed- for the more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's, their 16 million caregivers, and millions more who have lost a loved one to this disease.
Please support my efforts by making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and their ground breaking momentum in the field of Alzheimer's research. 90% of the funds raised go toward the Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Help me cycle towards a world with our first survivor and donate today!
