Daytime drowsiness in elderly adults may increase Alzheimer's disease risk
A new study in the journal JAMA Neurology suggests that excessive daytime sleepiness in cognitively normal elderly adults may be associated with the buildup of plaques made of beta-amyloid protein — one of the hallmark brain changes of Alzheimer's disease. While further research is necessary, if this finding is confirmed, it could create a revealing question that doctors can ask when assessing people who may be living with Alzheimer's or another dementia.
