Breast cancer gene may affect Alzheimer's disease
Researchers know that mutations of a certain gene contribute to a higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers. For the first time, scientists say the gene may also play a part in the nerve death responsible for Alzheimer's disease. The study results are preliminary, but the researchers believe future investigations on the gene may potentially lead to new Alzheimer's treatments.

Bob Wellington, a member of the Alzheimer's Association 2015 National Early-Stage Advisory Group, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2010. His wife, Juanita, has been by his side every step of his journey. He writes that there can never be enough support for caregivers: "Many people don't know how overwhelming and isolating caregiving can be. We need to support caregivers more now than ever."
