Join us as we celebrate 30 years of service in southeastern Virginia from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the beautiful Magnolia Room on the grounds of Atlantic Shores, 1200 Atlantic Shores Drive, Virginia Beach. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Steven DeKosky. Dr. DeKosky is the Vice President and Dean of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and an international leader in the field of Alzheimer’s disease research. He also served on the National Association’s Board of Directors and chaired the Association’s Medical & Scientific Committee. Dr. DeKosky was also instrumental in developing the Pittsburgh Compound B to help detect plaques in the brain. The Master of Ceremonies will be Joe Flanagan, WVEC.

Join us on May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for our A Day of Caring caregiver conference. Ellen Phipps, CTRC, VP of Programs and Services at the Alzheimer’s Association Central and Western Virginia Chapter and co-author of Connections: A Complete Activities Guide for Persons Diagnosed with Dementia will present an afternoon workshop. The program is based on the principles of therapeutic recreation and Montessori methods for individuals with dementia. It will provide caregivers the tools and necessary knowledge to engage in meaningful activity with persons with dementia. Additional speakers will include; Regina R. Sibal, FNP-BC, Southside GeroPsychiatric Services, presenting Medicines to Treat AD Symptoms and Behaviors; Carter Harrison, Alzheimer’s Association State Public Policy Director for Virginia, presenting Advocacy and Public Health Policy; and there will also be an additional session on research. The program is FREE and lunch and snacks will be provided. Space is limited to 100 people. putting on such a fabulous Black Tie Bowling Event that sold out and raised
nearly $22,000! Thanks to all the great teams who came out,

Disease and Dementia Caregiver Support Presentation & Book Signing Hosted by David Troxel at Atria Virginia Beach
For more than 25 years, David Troxel, MPH, has been reinventing care for patients with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. He has co-authored five influential books, most notably A Dignified Life: The Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer's Care. David Troxel has also served as Executive Board member of the American Public Health Association and as a member of the Ethics Advisory Panel for the Alzheimer's Association. David Troxel will give an enlightening presentations followed by an open forum discussion period and complementary book signing. Atria will serve appetizers and beverages at both sessions.
These two events are being offered only to caregivers, volunteers and friends of the Alzheimer’s Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter, courtesy of Atria, on Tuesday, May 15 at either 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. at Atria Virginia Beach, 1628 Old Donation Parkway, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
