Hormone therapy for prostate cancer may increase risk of Alzheimer's disease
Hormone therapy for prostate cancer may be connected to a man's risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, a new study suggests. Researchers found that men who underwent androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer had nearly twice the risk of Alzheimer's when compared to prostate cancer patients who didn't receive hormone therapy. The scientists cautioned, however, that the study results don't prove a causal link between ADT and risk of Alzheimer's disease — just an association — and more research into a possible connection is necessary.
