You are not alone! Did you know?

  • Today 15.5 million Americans are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. More than 80% of those caregivers are providing care at home, on their own.
  • Nearly 60% of Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers rate the emotional stress of caregiving as high or very high; more than one-third report symptoms of depression.
  • Today 74% of caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias reported that they were “somewhat concerned” to “very concerned” about maintaining their own health since becoming a caregiver.

Association Staff & San Diego Alzheimer's Ambassadors in
Washington, D.C.

Alzheimer's Advocates take over Capitol Hill

Last week Association staff and some of our San Diego Alzheimer's Ambassadors joined over 900 Alzheimer's advocates on Capitol Hill to encourage lawmakers to support critical legislation and increased funding for Alzheimer's research.

Hill Day, as it is known to advocates, is the culmination of the Alzheimer's Association Advocacy Forum, an event that brings passionate individuals to the nation's capital to learn about Alzheimer's issues, share their personal challenges with the disease and request legislative support from Senators and Congressional representatives.

Our team met with all five Congressional representatives from our District to urge them to support an additional $200 million in NIH funding for increased Alzheimer disease research in 2015 as well as support of the Accountability Act. The Alzheimer's Accountability Act represents a bipartisan effort to ensure that Congress is equipped with the best possible information to set funding priorities and reach the goal of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer's by 2025.

Make your voice heard by joining with thousands of Alzheimer's advocates nationwide.
