How would you feel if your traditional family recipes were lost forever?
Most likely awful! Most people don’t realize that cooking is one of the first activities affected for individuals with Alzheimer’s who were the primary cooks in the family and the effects are felt by their loved ones who enjoyed their meals for many years. Family recipes are the heart of tradition, and if they are lost family heritage is lost too.
In spring of 2006, when Barbara Magro heard the diagnosis of her mother’s disease and witnessed her mother’s decline, she set out to preserve her family recipes that were at the heart of her upbringing. Recipes to Remember - My Epicurean Journey to Preserve my Mother’s Italian Cooking from Memory Loss is the result. This heartwarming book showcases the soul-satisfying food of an Italian-American family through generational recipes and stories around them that were saved before they were lost to the jaws of Alzheimer’s disease. This book will make a great holiday gift!
As seen in the Wall Street Journal, Daytime TV and WPLG 10 Miami. www.recipestoremember.net.
To purchase a book for $30, please call us at 757.459.2405. $5 from each book sold through our office will be donated to our chapter. If you order by December 4th, your book will be available for pick up on December 18th at our Holiday Open House. Please make checks payable to Barbara Magro and send to Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
