Campbell’s doctor talks about musician’s Alzheimer’s disease experience and legacy

As country-music legend Glen Campbell, who died last week, transformed into a person living with Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Ronald Petersen, his physician, was by his side. Petersen, director of the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, saw how music and personality affected the course of Campbell’s disease, which robbed him of the ability to remember lyrics but not guitar solos or social graces.

Charlotte Jackson’s husband, Bill, 70, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008. In 2012, Charlotte retired from her retail management position and was able to devote much more time to raising both funds and awareness for Walk to End Alzheimer’sŪ. She says a simple three-letter word — ask — provides an instant impact in her fight against the disease.
