Monarchs Participate In ODU Alzheimer's Awareness Walk

ODU Athletic staff was well represented at today's ODU Alzheimer's Awareness Walk. Members from the athletic administration, wrestling, men's and women's swimming, and men's basketball joined ODU President John Broderick in today's activity.

College is a time to learn and make memories and friends to last a lifetime.  What if one day you woke up and couldn't remember anything about college?  Alzheimer's is typically seen as an “old” person's disease, but the time to start preventing it is now!

Quick Facts about Alzheimer's:

•             5.4 million people in the United States are living with dementia costing over 200 billion in healthcare costs.

•             While the leading cause of Alzheimer's is growing old, lifestyle factors play a significant role in the development and severity of the disease.

•             Eating healthy, exercising, not smoking, and challenging your brain are recommended by the Alzheimer's Association as ways to reduce your risk.

The ODU Alzheimer's Walk is in support of the South Hampton Roads Walk to End Alzheimer's.  This walk is scheduled for Oct 13th at 10am in Virginia Beach.  To learn more about how to get involved or to fundraise, please visit:  www.alz.org/walk.

The ODU Alzheimer's Walk is sponsored by the Office of Community Engagement with generous support from the Office of Leadership and Student Involvement. For more information, please contact Tami Park at tpark@odu.edu or 683-7481.
