Nina Garcia fights Alzheimer's disease in her mother's memory
Elle editor in chief and Alzheimer's Association Champion Nina Garcia was honored with the Champion Award at the 34th annual Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala. Garcia shared that her mother battled Alzheimer's for eight years before passing away in October 2004.

Association collaborates with P&G to develop Home Safety Checklist
Through a collaboration with Procter & Gamble, the Alzheimer's Association has developed a Home Safety Checklist to help caregivers create a safer home environment for people living with Alzheimer's and other dementias. This new resource provides general home safety tips and room-by-room suggestions to help caregivers confidently manage key risks and ensure a safer home environment as the disease progresses.

Families should talk openly about driving and Alzheimer's disease
Driving demands quick reaction time and fast decision making — because of this, a person living with Alzheimer's or another dementia will eventually become unable to drive. Making decisions about when it's time to stop driving can be difficult, but dealing with the issue early on can help ease the transition.
