Summer2012NL

Advocacy Forum 2012 Thank you for lending your VOICE!

The first ever National Alzheimer's Plan was released this week by the Administration with the goal of preventing & effectively treating Alzheimer's by 2025. Your efforts got us here. You signed the petition, advocated on Capitol Hill & told elected officials that Alzheimer's couldn't wait. Your voices were heard. But our work is not done. The simple truth is that the National Alzheimer's Plan needs sufficient, dedicated funding to be effective. It's now up to Congress to decide whether this plan will mark the turning point in our nation's fight against this devastating disease. Use your voice. Ask your member of Congress to support the National Alzheimer's Plan with the resources necessary to change the trajectory of the disease. Alzheimer's will cost the nation an estimated $200 billion in 2012. If we do nothing, it will soar to $1.1 trillion by mid-century!

Growing Alzheimer’s awareness in the Asian community

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing concern within the Asian/Pacific Islander community. Barriers such as cultural beliefs and language can delay or prevent early diagnosis and treatment. In order to accommodate a growing number of Asian-Americans searching for basic information about Alzheimer’s disease and caregiving, the Alzheimer’s Association has launched a new website in May with content in Chinese (traditional), Korean, Vietnamese and Japanese.

Aroma's Coffeehouse Fundraiser

Aroma's Coffeehouse has teamed up with the Alzheimer's Association to raise money. Every time you buy a pound of coffee for $10 from Aroma's, they will donate $3 to the Alzheimer's Association. The coupon works for tea and chocolate as well. All you have to do is present the coupon (print the flyer), and Aroma's will do the rest. This is a great deal, and can really add up over time! When you print the flyer, you can give your extras to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. Aroma’s has two locations: Prince George street in Williamsburg and at City Center in Newport News.
