A Message to YOU from our Executive Director

2014 Lightbulbs

Jennifer Howard
Do you believe in making New Year Resolutions? Many people feel that the beginning of a new year is the perfect time to take a fresh look at where you are and where you want to go. In that spirit… the Michigan Great Lakes Chapter would like to share our resolutions…
Reach more of the families who need us. With your help we reached over 9,000 families last year, but there are more than 40,000 more families in our 23-county service area who still need our resources and support.

• Extend our reach into the African American communities by launching a new diversity outreach program utilizing our friends and community partners. African Americans are two times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than their Caucasian counterparts.

• Obtain state funding to help our local families through care consultation services. We currently do not receive any state funding for our programs and services.

• Increase our programs and services through monies earned through the new tax checkoff on the 2013 Michigan Income Tax Form 4642.

• Make an even bigger impact in raising awareness and funds through our events - Walk to End Alzheimer’s, The Longest Day, Alzheimer’s Association Annual Golf Outing and third party events.

• Enroll more people in clinical trials through our TrialMatch program to drive research towards finding a cure.

• Reactivate the Michigan Dementia Coalition with community partners to speak with one strong voice for those in Michigan dealing with memory loss.
To learn how you can get involved to make a difference in 2014, please contact us at 800.272.3900 or visit our website at alz.org/mglc.

Best wishes to you and your family for a happy 2014!

Jennifer W. Howard
