Federal Priorities for 2011-2012
Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act Bill Number: H.R. 1897 The Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act would make Alzheimer’s research a priority at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), create public-private partnerships to discover treatments and a cure, and ensure that the NIH requests the funding necessary to get the job done. HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act Bill Number: S. 738 / H.R. 1386 The Health Outcomes, Planning, and Education (HOPE) for Alzheimer’s Act would increase diagnosis and expand access to information on medical and non-medical services for newly-diagnosed patients and their families.
On January 4, 2011, the National Alzheimer’s Project Act was signed into law by President Obama after having been passed unanimously in both the Senate and House of Representatives. This is a major victory for the Alzheimer’s Association and its advocates as well as for the nation. We must now ensure that the law is thoroughly and expeditiously implemented.
