In memory and tribute to a man who served for 21 years as the Sheriff of San Diego County and was beloved by countless San Diegans. 

Former Sheriff William “Bill” B. Kolender passed away Tuesday morning after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by friends and family. Kolender was elected the 28th Sheriff of San Diego County in 1994 and was sworn into office in 1995. He was re-elected as Sheriff three times after that, in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
