Collaboration4Cure  is an unprecedented drug discovery effort led by The City and County of San Diego, Darlene Shiley and Mary Ball, President & CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association San Diego and San Diego’s premier research institutes.

Through innovation and collaboration of ideas, leveraged with San Diego’s unique drug discovery resources, C4C plans to develop a portfolio of successful chemical compounds that can be translated into therapeutic drugs.  With a five-year funding goal of $7 million, all funds will be raised through local philanthropic efforts and restricted for projects from researchers in San Diego-based institutions.

How will the money be used?
San Diego researchers will submit proposed projects to C4C’s Joint Review & Operations Committee, made up of an esteemed panel of San Diego researchers from UCSD, The Venter Institute,Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP) The Scripps Research Institute, and The Salk Institute. They will then be reviewed and approved based on the criteria of their potential to bridge the gap between academic research and drug development.
Selected projects will have direct access to the state-of-the-art drug discovery equipment and resources at SBP and The Scripps Research Institute. Additional new projects will be authorized as prior projects progress to more advanced phases in the drug development process.
