Holidays at Mom's  Christmas Eve at Mom and Dad's. We always celebrated on Christmas Eve from the time we were small because with 8 kids by 1960, waiting for Santa, the parent's never got enough sleep unless Santa came the night before. Dad would take us in the car to see neighborhood lights and Mom had to get all the gifts out and under the tree while we were out. We each got one toy and new clothes every year. Dad would bring us home and Mom would say "You just missed Santa." Even after all were grown we still always did Christmas Eve at their home. Mom was diagnosed with ALZ in 2000. She still knew all of us who lived nearby but not the rest of her children. She passed away 30 January 2009. We still talk about all those wonderful holidays at "home." |
