12 days of Christmas

Ed's last christmas at home

My husband, Ed, was diagnosed with frontal temporal dementia in 2004. In December, 2005, Ed was chosen by someone to receive gifts during the 12 days of Christmas. It was his last Christmas at home. It took him a few days to realize these gifts were outside every morning. Then, he was afraid to open the door. He wasn't sure what or who would be there. The most touching day was when he told me that he knew who was leaving the gifts. I asked him who it was. He told me he saw "him". He told me he saw "him come down and go back up". On the last day, when I told him who had been bringing the gifts, he told me "no. He kept telling me it was that man who came down and went back up." I will always remember how excited he got every day and just shook everytime we opened the door. I can never thank those friends enough for what they gave to him that year.
