Get it while you can

Our last family thanksgiving

Last year was the final Thanksgiving dinner my family had together in our own house. In March of this year, we were finally compelled to move my father to a nursing home. He is still alive, but for all intents and purposes, in a coma. My father is in his 3rd year of diagnosed Alzheimer's Disease, although I believe his decline really started some time around 1998. His dimentia is now severe. He has lost the ability to communicate with the outside world.
Even though I did many things, and went many places, and had many conversations with my father when his Alzheimer's was first diagnosed, I find myself wishing I would have had just one more talk with him - while there was still time.
So my wish, my advice if you will, to those of you who have not gone yet as far down the road as my family and my father have, is ... "Get it while you can."
Sincerely
Joe
