My Mother

As this holiday season begins, I am remembering all of the wonderful memories that have always made this time of year magical. I am trying to recapture that magic this year as my mother is in the later stages of Alzheimer's. However, as I write this the magic of the season is starting to shine it's light on our home- my mother was the best Santa in the whole world! We would wake up on Christmas morning and our living room had been transformed into a magical toy land! After the excitement of seeing who got what, she would start in on our holiday meal, again the same every year but always just as delicious as the year before. Then of course all of the shopping, driving around looking at lights, and just spending time with the family. My mother was the holder of our family and she loved this time of year! As we were going to an appointment today- she somehow made the magic appear again- we were listening to Christmas music and she started to sing and hum along!!! Today- the holiday season is here, along with the magic as I felt as a child and I am thankful to be able to share another holiday season with her again- her true spirit continues to rise above this disease and she has given me yet another gift that I will always cherish! Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to you all!
