During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month in June, the Alzheimer’s Association encourages people to adopt healthy lifestyle habits that can help improve brain and body health. While there is no way to prevent, cure or even slow Alzheimer's disease, there is evidence that people can reduce their risk of cognitive decline by making key lifestyle changes. The Association’s 10 Ways to Love Your Brain provides tips that may reduce your risk of cognitive decline, and potentially even dementia.

Studying Alzheimer’s in people with Down syndrome could prove beneficial
In last week’s e-news, it was incorrectly reported that people with Down syndrome inherit it from their parents. Even though there is a rare inherited form of Down syndrome, the majority of cases are instead caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21. The corrected version is below.

The Alzheimer’s Association, in collaboration with the several Down syndrome organizations, recently convened an international workshop of leaders in Alzheimer’s disease and Down syndrome research to create a roadmap for advancing Alzheimer's treatment and prevention for people with Down syndrome as well as the rest of the population. People with Down syndrome run a very high risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Researchers are working to call attention to the connection between Alzheimer’s and Down syndrome and to better coordinate global research efforts.
