State Action Update

THANK YOU ADVOCATES!

HB175 passed the State Senate and the fiscal note was approved last night! It will now be sent to Governor Gary Herbert for his signature and it will be law. This bill is significant because it makes Alzheimer's disease and related dementia a public health issue and raises it to the same level as cancer, heart disease and HIV/Aids in importance and attention. The bill also designates the Utah Department of Health as primarily responsible for implementing the Utah State Plan for Alzheimer's and Related Dementia. This plan was passed by the state legislature in 2012. It outlines plans to achieve five goals which include:

  • A Dementia-aware Utah

  • Health & Dignity for All with Dementia and Those at Risk

  • Supported and Empowered Family Caregivers

  • A Dementia-competent Workforce

  • Expanded Research in Utah

We appreciate your help in contacting your state legislators to encourage the passage of HB175-Alzheimer's Plan Amendments. We ask you now to please send an email to your legislators thanking them for their support and for making Alzheimer's a priority in Utah.

Best wishes,

 Ronnie Daniel
Executive Director
