The holidays can be stressful for families coping with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, as people search for meaningful ways to honor traditions with people whose memories of them may be fading. They’re also a time when some family members may first notice signs of physical or mental decline in relatives they haven’t seen in a while.

New website offers families affected by Alzheimer’s a place to share memories
If you know someone living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, MyALZspot is a private space to share family memories, listen to professionals talk through real situations and discover new tools that may be helpful. Developed by SPN Network in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association, MyALZspot offers a way to post meaningful videos, songs, images, dementia-related articles or a quick note.

Choir of people with Alzheimer's sings tunes from memory
Once a week in Minneapolis, about 30 people with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia rehearse side by side with their caregivers in the Giving Voice Chorus. People who enter the practice room who have difficulty holding a thought, or even speaking, suddenly remember songs by the Beatles and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
