August 9, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. Who Pays For What As We Age?  Morning Pointe of Hixson. 5501 Hixson Pike, Hixson TN. Join featured speaker Frankie Parrott, Morning Pointe Community Relations Director for this guided discussion on maneuvering through the minefields of 'who pays for what as we age'. August 9, 6:00 - 7:00 pm. Living With Alzheimer's. Cleveland YMCA.  220 Urbane Road, Cleveland. Join Amy French  Alzheimer's Association  Program Manager for this education program focusing on the understanding and management of Alzheimer's and related dementia. August 15, 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Support Group Facilitator Training. This training is for both those who would like to be an Alzheimer's Support Group Facilitator and for those who currently facilitate a group. August 28, 10:00 - 11:00 am. Legal and Financial Planning. Alexian Valley Residence (now called Ascension1164 Mountain Creek Road, Chattanooga. Amy Boulware, Care Planning Manager with Chambliss, Bahner &Stophel, will discuss legal and financial matters regarding Alzheimer's and dementia. Support Groups 

Caregiver Support Groups. You are not alone! Join one of our support groups in your area to learn from and interact with others who face similar challenges. Support Groups for Caregivers can be found HERE.

Early Stage Support Groups are for those who are in the early stages of dementia. These programs include the care partner and involve both education and social components. For more information about Early Stage services contact Amy French at afrench@alz.org or 423-265-3600.

Other Programs of Interest

Let's Sing From Memory. 2nd and 4th Tuesday, 10:00 - 11:00 Christ United Methodist Church; 1st and 3rd Tuesday, 1:00 -2:30 pm Northside Presbyterian Church.This interactive program is for the person with dementia and the caregiver (in any stage). It provides a time of socialization and fellowship through music and social interaction. And it's FUN!  To learn more about this program click HERE or contact Wayne Evans at w_evans3@comcast.net.

Respite Opportunities

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Relief Grant Program. Grants for in-home care services may be awarded to families living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.  This opportunity is brought to you by Hilarity For Charity and the Home Instead Foundation. For more information go to HelpForAlzheimersFamilies.com

Volunteer Opportunities

TrialMatch is an Alzheimer's Association free matching healthy volunteers and those with the disease with pharmacological and non-pharmacological studies in your area. Visit www.alz.org/trialmatch for more information. 

Education and Support presenters and facilitators.. Volunteers are needed to help us expand our reach for Programs and Support Groups. Training support and all materials will be provided. The following areas of interest are targeted:

Support Group Facilitators: Volunteers needed to facilitate local Support Groups in your community. Specific training will be offered in April 2018. Stay tuned for upcoming announcement on date and location.

Advocacy / ACT Team Volunteers: participate in local advocacy efforts, social media, district visits, and support Alzheimer’s Ambassadors to state and federal legislators.

Faith-based Outreach: reaching out to local churches with brochures; information on starting and offering education and support programs.

Diversity Outreach: reaching out to local churches and organizations with informational materials and programs specific to the needs of diverse communities.

Hispanic Outreach: looking for bilingual volunteers interested in establishing relationships with local Hispanic organizations, churches, and other groups for education and support in the Hispanic community.

LGBTQ Outreach: Volunteers needed to engage and establish relationships with local LGBTQ organizations and groups to offer presentations, support, and educational materials.
