MAINE BUSINESSES FIGHT ALZHEIMER'S THROUGH THE LONGEST DAY
Activities Start Now and Continue through June
Chelsie
Mitchell,
Director of Sales and Marketing at The Highlands in Topsham shares her
experience with the event. “This year the Highlands is having a benefit dinner
and auction. Last year, we ended up having so many attendees for a picnic that
the food trucks were running out of food. It was a blast for everyone
involved!”
The Longest Day® is
about hope and dedicated to all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. It is
held annually on the summer solstice as part of Alzheimer's & Brain
Awareness Month® in June, however several participants raise
funds all year long. Participants choose a favorite activity and set a
fundraising goal to help fuel the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association.

HISTORIC $414 MILLION INCREASE FOR ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH
Thanks to Our Dedicated Advocates
On March 23 the president
signed into law a $414 million increase for Alzheimer’s and dementia research
funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The 2018 federal funding
bill includes — for the third year in a row — the largest increase in history
for Alzheimer's research, bringing Alzheimer's research funding at the NIH
to $1.8 billion. This victory couldn't have happened
without the combined efforts of The Alzheimer's Association, the Alzheimer's
Impact Movement and our nationwide network of
dedicated advocates.

FAMILY & CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUPS OFFERED
Get the Support You Need
The
Alzheimer's Association's Family and Caregiver Support Groups are designed to
provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through
regularly scheduled meetings. They help participants develop coping methods and
encourage caregivers to maintain their personal, physical and emotional health,
as well as optimally care for the person with dementia.
People come to support
groups looking for others who "really understand their situation because
they've been there too." We also offer a telephone caregiver
support group designed to accommodate caregivers who are unable to
attend a group in person.
