Maine_Advocacy_Day_Logo.jpgSAVE THE DATE: MAINE'S ALZHEIMER'S & DEMENTIA ADVOCACY DAY

Join Us on February 28 at the State House in Augusta

You’re invited to join us on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Hall of Flags on the second floor of the State House in Augusta for Maine’s Alzheimer’s & Dementia Advocacy Day. This day of state advocacy is designed to enable those affected to share their experience face-to-face with state elected officials while surrounded by supporters. Personal stories hold the weight necessary to motivate our state officials to combat the Alzheimer’s crisis. Maine residents affected by Alzheimer’s carry the most power to effect change through direct advocacy work. Show your support of Maine families affected and influence officials to address the economic impact of the Alzheimer’s epidemic and the care and support needs of Maine families. We need the help of all Mainers to fight Alzheimer’s disease.

Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Hall of Flags, Maine State House, 210 State St., Augusta, ME 04330

VITAL LEGISLATION PASSES HOUSE AND SENATE

Thanks to Maine Advocates

Advocacy works. On Tuesday, December 19th, the House passed the Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act of 2017 (S.1028/H.R.3759) by unanimous voice vote. This act will facilitate the creation of a national strategy to address the many issues facing caregivers, including education and training, long-term services and supports, and financial stability and security. The Senate voted to pass the bill by unanimous consent in November. The next steps are to reconcile the differences between the House and Senate bills.

We are proud that Maine has full federal delegation support of this vital caregiver legislation. Our volunteer advocates urged the Maine delegation to support this bill by sharing their personal Alzheimer’s stories through letters to the editor and phone calls. Thank you advocates, your ongoing dedication is paying off. And thank you to Senator Collins, Senator King, Congresswoman Pingree and Congressman Poliquin for supporting this legislation.
