NOW IS THE TIME TO REACTIVATE YOUR WALK TEAM
Calling All Walk to End Alzheimer's Team Captains to Register
It is best for team captains to register their teams early so that team
members can sign up. Walk teams are not automatically re-activated and it only
takes a few minutes to register. Early registration will increase our chances
of meeting fundraising goals. If you have questions or need help re-activating
a team please give us a call and we will gladly help you.
July is also a
wonderful time for Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraising activities. Host a yard sale, car wash, bottle drive, bake sale, lemonade
stand, outdoor party, or a social event to raise awareness and funds for your
team. It is a perfect time of year to get your team together and excited for the
season.

ALL OF MAINE'S FEDERAL DELEGATION SUPPORTS KEY ALZHEIMER'S LEGISLATION
Proposed Bill will Increase Palliative Care and Hospice Training
Thank you,
Senator Susan Collins, Senator Angus King,
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree and Congressman Bruce Poliquin
for co-sponsoring the Palliative
Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA). This bill
will increase palliative care and hospice training, launch a national campaign
and enhance research on the delivery of palliative care.
Nearly half of all people with
Alzheimer's and other dementias are in hospice care at the time of their death.
Less than half of surveyed nursing homes have some sort of palliative care
program. For people with advanced dementia, such care – which focuses on
managing and easing symptoms, reducing pain and stress, and increasing comfort
– improves quality of life, controls costs, and enhances patient and family
satisfaction.
