Exercise may protect the brain even with signs of dementia
|
A new study published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia®: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association shows that exercise increases levels of a protein known to strengthen communication between brain cells. The protective effect was even found in active older people whose brains showed signs of a number of hallmarks of Alzheimer's and other cognitive diseases. Experts say the study, which is partially funded by the Association, reinforces the importance of regular physical activity at any age.
