Signs of early Alzheimer's may show in brain stem
New research suggests that changes in the brain stem might be an early indicator of Alzheimer's. Reduced "integrity" in the brain stem region was linked to a faster decline in memory and thinking in older adults, as well as brain changes seen in early Alzheimer's. The study results highlight a potential biomarker — a measurable substance that can reliably detect a disease — that could help distinguish normal brain aging from a disease process.
