Brain inflammation may be connected to Alzheimer’s
|
Brain inflammation may drive the progression of Alzheimer's from the presence of amyloid plaques, a hallmark of the disease, to the onset of dementia symptoms, according to a new study. Researchers found that the interaction between brain inflammation and amyloid encourages the formation of tau tangles, another hallmark of Alzheimer’s, and likely leads to cognitive impairment. These results suggest that combination therapies that address both amyloid plaque buildup and brain inflammation could be effective.
