Research links gum disease with Alzheimer's
According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 70% of adults aged 65 and older have gum disease. A new study published in Alzheimer's & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring, a journal of the Alzheimer’s Association, suggests that people with more harmful than healthy gum bacteria were more likely to also have higher levels of brain amyloid. Clumps of amyloid, known as plaques, are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease.
