Biological markers could aid Alzheimer's diagnosis and drug development
Researchers say that Alzheimer's begins altering the brain long before the disease affects memory and thinking. Scientists are developing tests relying on biological markers (biomarkers), such as those found in spinal fluid and blood, to detect these changes. Experts believe research using biomarkers, once they're verified, will improve early detection and speed the pursuit of new therapies.

The need for a comprehensive safety plan to address driving, wandering and home safety issues becomes vital as dementia progresses. Taking measures to improve safety can prevent injuries and help the person living with Alzheimer's maintain his or her independence longer.

Take precautions to avoid issues with multiple medications
A person living with Alzheimer's or another dementia may be prescribed multiple medications and also have prescriptions for other conditions. Care needs to be taken with all medications and when more than one is being used.
