Link may exist between eye diseases and Alzheimer's
A new study suggests a possible connection between three degenerative eye diseases and Alzheimer's. Researchers report that of more than 3,800 study participants aged 65 and older, those with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma had a 40 to 50 percent greater risk of Alzheimer's. The researchers suggest that primary care doctors seeing patients with these eye conditions should be more attentive to checking for possible dementia or memory loss.
