Study finds medical marijuana pills fall short in treating dementia behavior
So-called medical marijuana pills may not ease behavioral symptoms that commonly affect people with dementia, according to a new study. In a small trial, researchers found that pills containing the main active ingredient in marijuana were no more successful than placebo pills in easing agitation, aggression and wandering. The researchers said the medical marijuana pills were well-tolerated, so future research using higher doses may be possible.

B. Smith and husband raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease among minorities
Last year, former model, designer and restaurateur B. Smith revealed her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. For Smith, going public with the revelation has inspired her and her caregiver-husband, Dan Gasby, to urge minorities to enroll in cognitive-related clinical trials.

Former nurse with Alzheimer’s works to help people with the disease
Cynthia Guzman was a nurse for 30 years. Near the end of her career, she began to notice she was struggling with daily tasks and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011. With the support of the Alzheimer’s Association, she is part of the movement to educate and advocate for people with the disease.
