Military Risk Factors for Dementia

Date:
Time:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location:
Park Hyatt Washington, Grand Ballroom

Considerable evidence suggests that military expsosures, such as traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder, may increase risk for developing cognitive impairment and dementia, including AD. In 2012, the Alzheimer's Association, along with NCIRE, convened a discussion to evaluate the state of the science on these factors to outline a research roadmap moving forward. Building on that discussion and on the goals set forth in the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's disease to effectively prevent and treat Alzheimber's by 2025, this meeting will evaluate the progress made since 2012 and identify outstanding knowledge gaps that may impact individuals' risk for later lifer Alzheimer's and related dementia. As a result of this discussion, participants will outline a research roadmap, including emerging areas and needed studies for investigation.

Understanding risk factors that are a result of military service are essential to supporting our veterans and their families in the coming years.
