Nellie was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia a few years ago. This is a type of progressive dementia that leads to a decline in thinking, reasoning and independent function because of abnormal microscopic deposits that damage brain cells over time.
Lewy bodies are also found in other brain disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease dementia.
There are no treatments that can slow or stop the brain cell damage caused by dementia with Lewy bodies. Your gift will help the Alzheimer's Association accelerate research and move closer to a cure.
