Dad was officially diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2009 even though the disease starts much earlier. He was very aware he had Alzheimers and would frequently say to others when he talked to forgive him as he "has Alzheimers". He handled the downside graciously while struggling internally with the inability to be independent and do his favorite activity: drive all the while setting a high bar for how to preserve personal dignity.
He grew up and lived in Missouri. Over this past year, almost to this date, I was the luckiest daughter by being given the opportunity to spend nearly everyday with him and the gift of him knowing me all the way until the end. This gift enabled us to share many "priceless moments" together.
So in memory of my Dad and to assist future generations of dealing with this disease, I ask in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory.

Tina,
Your Dad was a pure gem, a class act and a teddy bear all wrapped into one wonderful package! He always had this incredible way of making me feel so very special...almost like a daughter. I will always remember all of the fun we shared together with him on the lake in his various boats.
I will miss him so very dearly and treasure every single memory that I have of him! I know that there are no words to even begin to express how much YOU will miss him! But he will live on forever in the most joyous and magnficient way in our hearts and in our memories! CHEERS to you Joe!!
I Love You, Sister!

Dear Tina
I am so sorry for your loss.
You always spoke of your Dad so fondly that I knew that you had a very special relationship.
I am so glad that you were able to bring him to Maryland for his last days.
My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend.

Tina,
We are saddened to hear about your father's passing. It is, however, so nice to hear that you got to spend so much time with him over this last year.
I can imagine how proud of you he was.
Take care,
Larry

Dear Tina,
I am so glad you were blessed with having your Dad know you until the end. I had that with my Mom and it truly is a gift.
You were a fantastic daughter giving your time and love to your Father on a daily basis.
If there is anything I can do for you, let me know.
All my best!
Jackie

Tina and I became friends more than 30 years ago and because she is so dear to me - I had the privelege of getting to know Joe over the years and I am blessed to have many memories of him! I will miss his wit and easy smile.
He was a wonderful story teller and a great listener. I also enjoyed getting the chance to make him laugh when I shared stories with him about my "most memorable teaching moments."
His zest for life and laughter were contagious. Joe was a snappy dresser with a love for dogs - that made me adore him even more.
I always thought Tina was so lucky - she had the best dad ever and I know how close the two of them were.
You will be sorely missed Joe Gilbert -heaven is a happier place now because I know you are in it! With love and adoration - till we meet again.

Tina,
So sorry. You can take comfort in the year he was here and the time you spent together. You and he are in my thoughts.
