Keep on Rocking
What a ride Dad had in life. Although he passed away at a young age, he packed an entire life's worth of fun into his time on Earth. The latter couple of years were a struggle for sure - from a slipping mind to anxious hallucinations to twenty hour naps. I will always remember Dad for the good times, even with the difficult years fresh in my memory. He taught me to hunt and fish; he taught me to be kind, giving, and honest; he taught me how to work hard; he taught me how to be a man. But most importantly, he taught me how to live life. Our time in this world is not promised and always live today like there's no tomorrow. I realize this is an oft-used cliché, but Dad embodied it by working hard and certainly playing even harder.
These are lessons that a son can't learn from a classroom or a website, but only can come from watching someone trusted and trying to mimic their actions. He had to learn these lessons himself, no doubt from Big John, and I will do my best to pass these values on to my own children - by showing them and not just telling them.
Whether it was freezing my butt off as a 10 year old in the deer stand or making "just one more pass" with the boat, I will cherish every memory that I have of him. I hope to see you up in Heaven someday old buddy. I know you will have a few cold ones waiting for me..... but only "just a few", I am sure of that! Keep on rocking Cooter.
