James Terrence "Terry" Spencer passed away on April 7th after an ongoing battle with Alzheimer's. Terry was 81 years of age at the time of his passing. Terry was born and raised in Charleston, WV, and journeyed through his life with a steadfast commitment to service, family, and faith. He was born to James Herbert Spencer and Katherine Lahoma Spencer, who preceded him in death. Terry's educational journey took him from Charleston High School to David Lipscomb College in Nashville, TN, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1964. It was during his time at David Lipscomb College that he met the love of his life, Ann Hallet Mason, whom he married on June 27, 1964. Together, Terry and Ann built a beautiful family and shared 59 years of love and devotion. He is survived by his children: Mason A. Spencer of Nashville, TN; Sara S. Fogelberg and her husband Todd Fogelberg of Brentwood, TN.; their children Bradley Elkins and his wife Cora Gentry Elkins; Samantha Rae Fogelberg, and Ella Grace Fogelberg; and Bradley's son, Everette Jackson Elkins, who brought immeasurable joy as Terry's great-grandson. Also, his sister, Jamie S. Durham of Hermitage, TN, her husband John Durham and their daughter Hanna C. Durham, Old Hickory, TN. Terry dedicated 27 years of his career to serving as a Medicare Administrator for Cigna Healthcare, touching countless lives with his compassion and professionalism. Outside of his professional endeavors, Terry found joy in various hobbies, including sailing/boating, gardening, bluegrass music, classic cars, fishing, and spending time with his beloved grandbabies. His love for these activities was only matched by his devotion to Otter Creek Church of Christ, where he was a member from 1961 until his passing. Additionally, Terry was a Life Loyal Member of the Delta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity at David Lipscomb. Terry's commitment to service extended beyond his civilian life, as he served in the United States Army from August 1966 to June 1969, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant and receiving an honorable discharge. He underwent additional education at the US Infantry School, US Army Armor School, and the School of the Americas Canal Zone, earning certifications in various fields, including Jungle Operations. For his dedicated service, Terry was decorated with numerous awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14), Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. James Terrence "Terry" Spencer will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his boundless love for his family, and his dedication to serving others. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
