Patricia O'Donnell Gibson passed away on April 6, 2022 after living with Alzheimer's for several years. She was 77.
Before Alzheimer's, Patty was full of life. She was known for her brilliant mind, her sharp wit and her ability to make anyone double over in laughter.
She spent her career teaching English and instilling in her students a love of poetry and journaling.
Patty's friends remember her as being a welcoming host who always shared a beautiful spread, as well as a loving and loyal friend who was always ready with a good book recommendation and gardening tips.
She loved her family fiercely and instilled in them a strong sense of what is important in life - being with the people you love, and taking time to watch the sunset.
When Patty was diagnosed with Alzheimer's she was devastated and her family and friends saw these beautiful traits that had defined her slip away. Her husband, Lou shifted his life to be her care giver and remain by her side until the end. Lou could still see the twinkle in her Irish eyes and the smile that won so many of us over.
Patty lived her last two years at Clarke Retirement Home at Franklin (Grand Rapids, MI) on their 3rd floor memory care center.
We lost her in pieces and are content to know she is finally at peace.
There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's and millions of people have a similar story as Patricia. Please consider donating in Patty's name to this organization that funds research of this terrible disease.
