Alice Sung
James H. Sung was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and husband of beloved mother, grandmother, and "auntie," Elizabeth Sung. He was an engineer with a long career, most notably with NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, supporting aerospace research, technology, and space exploration. Born in 1917, in the Anhui Province of China, he came to the United States on a graduate scholarship to Ohio State University. He lived a long and well traveled life, sharing his wisdom, courage, generosity, and sense of humor, with family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers. Over the years he supported, welcomed and sponsored the rest of the extended family, in China or Taiwan, to join him in California, including his nephew, C.K. He always had a sparkle in his eyes, and could charm any baby or bring laughter to young children. Always proud of his family, and the life he gave them in his adopted country, he was especially overjoyed at the birth of his grandchildren. Together with his wife, Elizabeth, they enjoyed traveling to many different countries, including a few trips back to China. A highly intellectual man, and avid reader, he enjoyed reading both American and Chinese newspapers, daily. He had lived with Alzheimer's disease for many years, but always recognized and remembered his extensive family. On June 24, 2015, with his two loving daughters at his side, he passed away peacefully. James Sung is survived by his two daughters, Ellen and Alice, and four granddaughters, Nicole and Alexandra, and twins, Athena and Alethea, as well as nephew "C.K." Sung, and many other nieces and nephews.
